Day SIx County Meath

Today we traveled from our B&B in Tralee,  County Kerry to our new destination in County Meath.  We are staying in the town of Trim.
Anyone recognize this castle?

Our drive always seem to take longer than the GPS suggests....especially when we get behind slow moving vehicles like this Doggy Bath and Trim bus.
This is our day's B&B- Killarney House in Trim. Our hostess, Anne, suggested we go see the Trim Castle as it was still early enough make it there before they closed for the day.  Excellent idea, Anne!
This is Sam and Jess' bedroom.

This is Cindy's and my bedroom.

Anyone recognize this castle?
It's Trim Castle, and is famous for being used in the movie Braveheart.
This board gave information about the filming of Braveheart.
It was a cloudy day, but no rain yet!! Yay!
This is the entrance to Trim Castle.  I can just imagine entering on horseback, or some merchant's wagon full of wares to sell.
Gotta love those selfies!  This on with Trim Castle's Keep behind us.
Here is the original layout of the castle.
We explored the area while waiting for our tour guide.  It is a really cool place.

The view as we ascended the castle keep.  Those lines in the walls are where a floor would have been, separating the castle in levels.
Our view from on top of the castle keep, looking out over the town of Trim.

One of the four towers on top of the Keep.
Here we are descending the spiral stairs.  We learned some interesting facts about the stairs.  They are  built with different widths, only just slightly, so that any attacking mauraders would "trip" on their way up--not realizing the stairs were not of the same size.  And tumble back down the stairs where the occupants of the castle could finish them off.  Ha!
This is my view of the same picture....Jess took the one from below us.

It was definitely an excellent idea to visit this castle.....one of our favorites so far!

Tomorrow we are planning on visiting some of the megalithic tombs in this area, Newgrange and Knowth.  Then on to the Hill of Tara--the high seat of the Kings of Ireland, and staying the night in a real castle!  Ross Castle! Yay!
