Day Four

Well today we decided to get an earlier start than we have been. After snoozing twice Sam and I finally got out of bed and headed down for another full Irish breakfast. I don't know...I may end up gaining a few pounds on this trip...grr...

On the agenda today was to drive clockwise around the Dingle Peninsula stopping along the way at interesting points. Aunt Cindy was guiding us using her Rick Steve's guide book. Our tour began along the coast of Tralee Bay...isn't it lovely? I keep saying it, but pictures just do not do Ireland's majestic landscape justice!

On the way to Dingle we stopped several more times to take pictures of the incredible views. There is nothing but lovely green everywhere you look!

Here is one view of the Skellig islands.

Next we stopped at Ventri beach to take pictures. Mom found someone's iPhone so we did our good deed for the day. Luckily for us it didn't have a passcode. Lucky for her we are honest. We called the last person she texted and I spoke with him and we decided to leave it at the next pub. Hopefully she got it. I know I would be so upset if I lost my phone. Hopefully she pays it forward:-)
Here I am taking selfies again...sorry!
Next we stopped at the Celtic Museum. It was quite interesting and we discovered the man who owns it is from Connecticut!  This dog was out front and didn't move the entire time. Not the best guard dog, huh?

This wooly mammoth head was pulled in by fishermen off the coast of Ireland and is the world's largest one. This next one was a carving from ancient times. Aunt Cindy says, "See, men were drawing pictures of women even back then!" LOL
Oh no, Mom! Don't let the prehistoric European bear get you!!
After the museum, we drove some more. Next stop? The prehistoric Dunbef Fort. All you get is a distance shot because we didn't feel like paying the euros for this one. :-)
After that, we stopped by the Beehive Fort. This one looked a bit more interesting  so we paid for admission.
Since Aunt Cindy didn't get to pose at the last photo shoot I made her pose for one today...haha! Love it!

Inside one of the forts...seriously...I am queen of the selfies...but I refuse to get a selfie stick haha!

Next we drove some more..,winding along the coast. It was totally freaking me out so half the time I looked out the opposite window. Then we stopped at a spot where we could hike up a huge hill and see the view. Aunt Cindy and I walked all the way up to the top and IT WAS WINDY!  I couldn't stand up because I was afraid I'd fall...it was really high! Aunt Cindy, however, stood up there like a champ!

What a view!!!!!

After our little hike we decided to get a small bite to eat. We stopped at a little pub and since I was jealous of Aunt Cindy's Baked Brie the previous day I decided to get my own this time. One thing about pub food in Ireland...it's always delicious and never seems to be the frozen crap pubs here in the states serve. Plus they always serve a salad...and I always eat it. I wonder if American  restaurants served salads on every plate if people would start eating them..maybe being a little healthier?
After the pub, we decided to see the ruins of an old church. While we were there we saw this sign.
It tells of an old piece of rock art found in the area and the map seems to show we are not far from it...enter the creepy music...we decide to try to find it...we walk and walk and come to a dead end...
Sam decides to trespass to see if she can find it lol...no luck...bummer! Time to head back. Wait!

What's that?? I saw that on the sign concerning the rock art so we start to follow it. Then we see another one! And we walk and walk and walk and walks..and walk some more. We keep following the arrows and we keep on walking.
Wait! Did I mention we were walking among pastures filled with sheep? And where there are sheep...of course there is sheep doodoo....watch your step! Seriously! Watch your step.
We walked so far! We climbed the freakin mountain!!! We turned around and the view was breathtaking! But man were my legs and knees on fire.
We saw another one over that ridge...let's go! Now it's been about 45 minutes straight of walking, stepping, watching out for sheep poop, but we can't stop! It's like trying to beat the last level of a video game..we came this far! We can do it! Then it starts to rain. Not the light drizzle kind of rain that it's been doing off and on all day...it's pretty heavy. So Sam and I had to find shelter near the fence under a bush which didn't work very well. Mom and Aunt Cindy found shelter crossing the wall at one point that was covered pretty well with bushes. It didn't last too long though. We didn't quit...we kept on going.
It's gotta be over the ridge! It just has to be! We climb and climb some more. This is a never ending quest.

Son of a *****! Here's the other side of the ridge and there are three more posts going straight down the other side of the mountain...Sam...I feel your pain! Screw this! We are done! So we head back down the mountain...my Fitbit says we were at it for 88 minutes. I walked 6 miles today. My body agrees.
Here we are making our way back down.
After this hike we seriously need a bite to eat and maybe a drink or two. So we head back to our B&B so mom and Sam can get out of their wet shoes and head out to dinner at West End pub in Fenit Village. I ordered the crab and a Bulmers. I think that hard cider is my new beer of choice..lol. The food here was amazing as well!
Now we are home and exhausted and are jam packed for tomorrow's schedule. I need an aspirin..my legs are killing me!&

Post Blog: Upon returning home and looking at the pictures we took, I noticed a QR code on the sign we took a picture of giving information about the Old stone art we went searching for....No wonder we never made it to our destination!  The trail leading to the stone was 16 miles long.  It would have taken us ALL day to walk there.  Yikes.  I guess it helps to have a working cell signal.  LOL
